1. Call for Solidarity requesting protest letters faxed to the Ministry of Justice sent to unions, national centers, migrant organizations and human rights organizations. (Call sent night of November 27). Full list of protest letters and solidarity messages received to be posted shortly;
2. Complaint sent to the UN Special Rappatour on the Human Rights of Migrants. (Sent Thursday November 29).
3. Protest letter and appeal sent to the UN Secretary General (Friday, November 30).
4. Urgent appeal to the ILO (currently looking into proper avenue), to be sent asap.
5. Formal complaint to the ILO Committee on Freedom of Association
Content: Repression against MTU is a violation of South Korean Law, including the Constitution and the principle of freedom of association embodied in ILO Conventions and international law. In particular, the arrests of the President, Vice President and General Secretary is an act of union repression and a violation of ILO convention 87 and the refusal to acknowledge MTU’s official union status is a violation of ILO conventions 87, 98 and 143.
