세계 이주민의 날은 1990년 12월 18일 유엔총회에서 ‘모든 이주노동자와 그 가족의 권리보호를 위한 협약’(UN이주노동자협약)이 만장일치로 통과된 날을 기념하는 날입니다. 그러나 한국정부는 아직도 협약을 비준하고 있지 않습니다. 2008년 어느 때보다도 한국정부의 이주노동자들에 대한 탄압이 강화된 이 시점에서 탄압의 표적이 되어 온 이주노조 조합원들, 그리고 이주노조와 연대해 온 여러 이주공동체 동지들, 한국 동지들과 함께 서로를 격려하는 자리를 만들고자 합니다. 더불어 각 나라 이주노동자들의 문화적인 모습을 다양하게 교류하면서 서로에 대한 이해를 높이고자 합니다. 부디 참석하시어 연대를 빛내 주시기 바랍니다.
International Migrants Day celebrates the day when the 'International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families' has been passed unanimously in UN Assembly on Dec 18, 1998. However, Korean government hasn't ratified it yet.
As Korean government's oppression of migrant workers in 2008 is more harsh than ever, we, MTU members, migrants communities and Korean solidarity groups will come together and share encouragement. Also, we'll deepen our understanding about each other through exchange of cultural performances. We'll feel highly honored by your presence.
