MSSC STRUGGLE REPORT (04-04-02/03)

Since before yesterday Myeong-dong cathedral¡¯s compound is besieged by riot cops, nearly around the clock. The reason: actually the candle rallies are illegal (please, what in S. Korea is not illegal?) since Friday, because of coming elections.
So before yesterday during the final rally of a demonstration against impeachment and the government¡¯s education policy (isn¡¯t it a little contradictory??), held by groups such as All Together (´ÙÇÔ²²), HCR (ÇÑÃÑ·Ã) and other student activists, large units of riot cops started the siege of our struggle site. Our common enemy in sight our night rally became a powerful confession of our strong determination! Just thanks to the cops!!
Later during the candle rally, on our side of the police blockade around 20 people joined. And now around 1.000 riot cops made themselves complete ridiculous in blocking another 25 people preventing to enter our struggle area. Later after the candle rally was finished the cops leaved the scene. And only few minutes later around 400 students arrived and occupied for several hours the stairs to the cathedral and the a while later arriving 500 cops were definitely to late! Great tactics by Seoul Metropolitan Police (SMP)!
Yesterday the same picture: the whole day the cops were hanging around the entrance to Myeong-dong cathedral¡¯s compound and later at around 6pm - a huge student demonstration (thousands of students from all over S. Korea participated) against government¡¯s education policy arrived in Myeong-dong and had the finishing point in front of Korea Exchange Bank – hundreds of frontline combat riot cops started to block the whole area around our struggle site. Definitely SMP head ¡°worried¡± that later the students will join anti-impeachment rally, but the students are more intelligent as thought. After finishing their final rally many of them passed our site, just ignoring the appeals of candle rally MC. A while later SMP had to learn that they got the same situation like the night before: around 1.000 combat riot cops are trying to prevent a handful people to enter our area. You can believe it or not, but perhaps they realized the mug¡¯s game of their doing and just left the scene. But interesting to see, our struggle site now open for everyone, only few, maximum 200 people joined the anti-impeachment stuff. Perhaps this fact shows us that the majority of the citizens already recognized that to defend the Roh administration is not in their interest. On the end of the candle rally we distributed leaflets with our opinion about defending Roh. Here you can read or download our leaflet.
Last but not least: Friday we¡¯d press conference to inform the public about Samar¡¯s deportation, but only few Journalists/reporters, such as from Jinbonet, Hangyeoreh and RTV, joined. The media of the bourgeoisie: SELF CENSORSHIP!
SINCE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON: SAMAR IS REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY!, by the way the first time since nearly 10 years (you can imagine such a long time with out to see your parents, friends¡¦? And this is the reality for ten thousands of migrant workers here!)

Make protest calls to the Immigration Office!
