In the following statement GEFONT (General Federation of Nepali Trade Unions) is analysing and condemning the ongoing wave of crackdown against un-documented migrant workers/the MTU in S. Korea:
"The regular crackdown of Korean Government over undocumented migrant workers is not new news and they have rights to crackdown to undocumented migrant workers through immigration law. But the question is why do documented migrant workers are forced to become undocumented?
Was Industrial Trainee System and Is Employment Permit System (EPS) has covered the basic rights of migrant workers?
Of corse, because of lack of proper system discrimination (all types), physical and mental abuses at work place are the main causes to become undocumented workers. So, the number of undocumented migrant workers are never been reduced. Until now Immigration had deported hundred thousand migrant workers form Korea. But again the number is....................... same.
So, why not think in another way................? Although Immigration act does notice as an undocumented migrant worker but in another hand Ministry of Labour had covered the undocumented migrant workers also with Labour Act.
So, even Migrant Workers who are undocumented have Labour 3 Rights in Korea. With labour act they have rights to voice out their rights openly. They have rights to unite and form the Trade Union. So the MTU is formed and MTU must Lead migrant workers for their fundamental rights.
Now MTU is one of affiliated Trade Union of KCTU. So, Korean Government should not ignore any more to MTU. Now time has come to recognize MTU by Korean Government. Because, migrant workers (Documented or Undocumented) are one of Strong Labour source to Korean Labour Market and Economy Development.
It is sure continue crack down on MTU leaders could not collapse MTU any more. And continue crackdown over MTU leaders is not the solution of stopping undocumented migrant worker's number and their voices. If it goes regular in Korea. The global Labour Movement must say "Korean Goverment is forcing migrant workers to become undocumented it self to exploit them more" So, it dosn't like MTU stand with voice of those exploited migrant workers.
So, immediately Korean Government must stop Crackdown over MTU leaders and Undocumented Migrant Workers.
Rather to crackdown better to legalize all undocumented migrant workers!
Recognize MTU instead of ignorance!
